Everyone wants to make $300 a day or more with their AdWords campaigns. You’ve started a few campaigns, spent a few dollars, and now you’re wondering – “where’s the payoff!”

There’s no secret to AdWords success. Like anything, joining the big leagues of AdWords profits means you must put in the hours. In this case, it’s hours of keyword work.

Extensive Keyword Research

There are literally thousands of keywords for every industry. By advertising a thousand or more keywords you will greatly increase your chance of getting clicks at a cheaper rate.

Consider this:

Campaign A: Your AdWords campaign has only 4 keywords. These keywords are the most popular keywords for your industry. The average CPC is $1. These keywords get 6000 searches a day. Your campaign is getting a 2% CTR which means your getting $120 clicks at a total cost of $120.

Campaign B: You research and bid on 2000 keywords. The average CPC is .10 These 2000 keywords also receive 6000 search queries a day. Again using a 2% CTR, your campaign is delivering 120 visitors. But instead of paying $120 as in Campaign A, you are only paying $12.

Obviously, Campaign B is the better performing campaign. Campaign B is saving $108 a day, $3,600 a month and $43,200 per year. The difference in ROI is staggering.

Remember, the difference between the two campaigns was in the keywords. Campaign A had a few popular keywords. Campaign B contained 2000 keywords. The keywords in Campaign B are less popular, translating to a cheap CPC for you.

How To Find Keywords For Your PPC Campaigns

Now you know the importance of doing extensive keyword research before beginning an AdWords campaign. But how do you come up with a long list of targetted keywords. Here’s how:

The simplest and easiest method to come up with good keywords is to think long and hard. “Yeah, that’ll get me 50 words” you say.” Still need more keywords? Try these tools;

1. Google Keyword Generator (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox)

2. WordTracker (http://www.wordtracker.com)

3. Overture Search Suggestion Tool (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/)

4. Keyword Wrapper (http://www.keyword-toolkit.com/keyword-wrapper/)

5. MyTrashMail Keyword Generator (http://www.mytrashmail.com/Keyword_Generator.aspx)

Happy keyword hunting. You can never have too many keywords. Just remember with each keyword you are increasing your ROI. And istn’t that what it’s all about?

You can discuss this article in the ReveNow! Forums (http://www.revenow.com/forums).

What is a good landing page? The crucial half of a PPC campaign most people don’t know about.

Google Adwords, Yahoo (formerly called Overture Sponsored listings) and other Pay Per Click (PPC) companies give you the chance to get your ad or search listing at the top of the pack, right up front and perfectly matched to the searcher’s query. With a clever and catchy, attention grabbing ad or headline you can win the viewer in that critical split second he has to decide to click.

He clicks, you score! Right? WRONG! If you can get that click on a focused, targeted keyphrase and ad headline, you should feel very good. You’re halfway there. But, where does he land? On your home page? On the specific product page if you have an online store?

The page where the viewer lands is called a “landing page” or “destination page.” It is equally as important as your ad headline and copy, if not more. Most sales, conversions, or leads that cost hard cash to Adwords or Yahoo are often lost because of poor, or non existent landing pages.

Why can’t I just send my adword clicks to my Home page?

You can. But what if you walked into a five-story department store with no sales people– You’re looking for a very specific sweatshirt with a Penn State Logo that you saw at a football game. You know the sports shop out in the mall will have it, but you’ve got a store credit card so you’d like to get it here. You’re also holding onto two toddlers who are losing their cuteness very quickly because they want the Happy Meals you promised on the way home.

So there you are in an endless sea of perfume counters. You want a sweatshirt. Maybe it’s in the men’s section…but where is that? Or maybe it’s in Active wear… would that be with the men’s stuff? And where are the escalators?!

“Forget it,” you think, and walk out to the sports shop in the mall, buy your sweatshirt and are on your way to Micky D’s in less than 10 minutes.

Your homepage is the department store. It doesn’t matter if you’re selling a product, service, or giving away free information. You have sections and categories which are probably very well marked and labeled.

However, your Google Ad or Sponsored listing was specific. It advertised a precise thing in about 70 characters or less. People don’t care about your home page. They expect to see what they were searching for as soon as they click. Don’t you?

So let’s say your ads lead to specific destination pages of your site. What’s on those pages?

Destination Page Overview

For Pay Per Click, your destination pages are absolutely critical. They are the second half of the sales pitch. Just having the adword or PPC land on the product page is not enough. First, you have to get someone to your site.

Remember the number of hits you get on a PPC or Google Adword is an ever-increasing expense if you don’t turn that click into a sale and the only sales person you have is the page at the end of that click.

You’ve got to convince someone quickly, “at a glance quickly,” why they should buy from you and not the ad above or below you. Think of your own web searches. You have seconds to entice that viewer to read more, or lose them.

Build the page around a SINGLE goal incorporating:

Well written content describing in clear detail what you are offering

Organization to make a fast read or “scan” of the page convey as much information to the viewer as possible. Use bullet points and straightforward language to make reading as easy as possible

Show the benefits to the potential customer. Details that the viewer can relate to on a personal, even emotional level are what makes this page have a much better chance of getting a lead, conversion or sale. It must show all the properties that make you better than the rest. Don’t be arrogant, but make the reader feel they will be secure, better and confident if they buy, fill out a form, or perform the action you’re after.

KISS- “Keep it simple, stupid” applies here too. If you don’t need a country and a phone number in your form, keep them off. Make it easy and simple for your viewer.

Remember, when you land on a page, you ask “WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?”

Destination Page Construct

The first step is to provide the viewer with what he’s looking for immediately. Next, show him the features of the product.

Most importantly, what is the benefit to the potential customer? Why should he buy from you? What will he gain by buying from you?

If you’re selling a product that is very similar to other competing products, you need to focus your sales message on what makes your product unique. What are the unique benefits for your customer?

Anything that can steal focus from your objective risks losing a conversion. This includes other products, details not related to the main idea, and even the navigation system you use throughout your site. Don’t give the viewer the option to go anywhere else but to a form, buy button or call to action.

Each destination page should have a single, obvious goal that gently tells the customer what to do. Don’t try to cross sell or sign up for a newsletter and send an e-card. Stick to one goal.

Some people might be looking for the specific product and buy from you. But for those that are questioning and/or first time buyers, don’t give them a chance to question your credibility.

The phone number and email address should appear (not obnoxiously)enough times that they’re always visible when the page is scrolled. It’s a proven fact, if someone has to search for how to contact you, you lose some potentials.

Destination Pages and the Unique Selling Proposition

A concept developed in 1961 still holds merit today and is a great check for the underlying tone of your landing page. That is the “Unique Selling Proposition” by Rosser Reeves. The concept explains how every company should strive to show how it differs and surpasses its competition.

It consists of three concepts that should be applied to your advertisement (or adword) and your destination page.

1. Tell the consumer what benefits you will be giving him. ? “Buy this product, and you will get this specific benefit.”

2. The benefits have to be unique to your product. Something that separates you from what the competition has to offer. If your products are sold by competitors too, find something that distinguishes YOUR company.

3. The proposition must be so strong and convincing that it can move the millions (attract new customers).

To be successful, you’ll need to research and build a campaign, then watch and modify, test and retest different changes, words, prices, etc. I want to stress the importance of this.

The same testing, observing, tracking and revising apply to landing pages as they do to ads and headlines themselves. It can save you a lot of money. If you’re not careful you can run up thousands of dollars in PPC and adwords with insignificant sales or leads.

If you are one of those people that has not had any luck with your pay per click search engine advertising, chances are you are not building your keyword advertising lists correctly. In order to get the most from google adwords, you have to know what keywords are going to work best for your field and what keywords are going to generate the most traffic. With these tips you will find your google adwords campaign will be made easy.

The first step to making a keyword list is to write down your targeted traffic and keywords you think suit them best. One of the easiest ways to do this is to think about how you would search for your product in the search engines. If you search for your product with these keywords, chances are hundreds of thousands of other people are doing the same thing.

Profitable keywords for your pay per click search engine advertising campaign can be found using the overture keyword suggestion tool. This will allow you to find what keywords are being searched the most, which will help you generate more traffic to your website. Place the top few keywords that you find in your titles of articles and blog posts, along with the first few sentences of the content on your website. The more you place the top keywords or targeted keywords on your website, the better chance you will have of climbing higher on the search engines.

Another great thing with a keyword suggestion tool like Overture is that you can find a large list of profitable keywords. This will allow you to build a list of multiple ways people are searching for the same product. If you can target multiple keywords, you will be able to have several lists on many of your pages. The more keywords you place on your website, the better chance you have to make money from it. If you can target several keywords as oppose to one or two you can cut down on repetition.

When you are choosing keywords, try and be as specific as possible. If you want to generate any kind of traffic that is specific to your site, you want to stay away from vague and basic keywords. By selecting specific keywords it lowers the competition you will face for the keyword and lower the cost per click you will be spending. By having specific keywords you will assure yourself that your keywords bring in qualified traffic that is worth your time.

There are multiple ways to make your pay per click search engine advertising campaigns made easy and specifying your keyword list is just the start. While there are many things you can do to get the most out of your keyword lists, finding the most specific and cost efficient keywords using a keyword suggestion tool is one of the best things you can do. After creating a list, you will be on your way to making money in no time.

by: Paul Symonds

1. Spend the time to do your keyword analysis. Do not skip this because ensuring you have effective keywords and ones that are specific and yet niche enough, can greatly affect your campaign. Use a site such as nichebot.com for this analysis. If you enter the words exhibition stands for example, you can then get a good idea of different keywords/expressions that you can use in your Adwords campaign. Analysing what keywords to use and compiling the best possible list is something worth doing before setting up the Adwords campaign. As well as nichebot.com, you can also simply do a Google search and see exactly what words your competitors are using in their Adwords campaigns. Compiling this list of keywords and expressions before starting the campaign will save you money in the long term

2. Similarly, before setting up your Adwords account, spend a day or two writing all of your advertisements. You will need to write one for each set of keywords

3. You should not use more than three or four words or expressions in each campaign ad group. This will make setting up the campaign much longer but this is necessary. The result is that you will have far more specific and closely related advertisements for each small ad group. This in effect should enable you to get higher Click-through-rates (CTR’s)

4. If you deem it useful, make sure you use ‘Geographical targeting’ for clearer and cheaper focus. On account set-up for each ad group, you can sep up specific areas where your ads will show. For example, if you wish to only target people in Sicily, Italy for renting property, you can set regional targeting so that the ads only become visible to people who do a search on Google, in Virginia:

5. When tweaking your Adwords campaigns, only change 1 thing at a time. One word in your headline may get your ad to pull twice as many clicks. Test everything – one at a time. By making gradual changes, it will be much easier for you to see the affects of individual changes.

6. You may wish to use an ‘Exact match’ expression. To do this put your keywords in brackets. For example, [Sicily property]. This will make your ads more targeted to the appropriate audience, with these ads only showing when an exact match is made with words entered in a Google search.

7. Experiment and tweak your keywords over a few months, until you gradually perfect the combination of words and sponsored costs per word/expression. Even after this time you will need to make small changes.

8. Make sure that you set up the account such that the link the user is sent to for each keyword expression, is the most appropriate link. If someone enters the words’ pop up stands’, make sure you send them to the pop ups stands page.

9. Use the ‘Position preference’ tool. If you do not want to see your results in any particular position then you can use this tool. For example, if you do not want any of your ads to come up on Google searches below 8th position, you can set this with the position preference tool.

10. Write effective ads. Take time and ensure you write attractive and noticeable ads, and ads which are directly related to the keywords.

Not getting the satisfaction you want from your AdWords account? Want to make more money by spending less?

Google AdWords has made many businesses successful by providing them with a great deal of highly targeted traffic for as little as 5 cents! Yet many webmasters and advertisers are incompetent when it comes to using AdWords efficiently. After $100 in losses and having many failed campaigns, I have learned how to solve many of these setbacks, so I have put together a list of the 4 steps required to come out on top.

1. Design

Decide how the layout of your ad will present itself. Next consider what you want to be included in the title and what facts or catch phrases you want your visitor to know before they decide to spend your money by clicking on your advertisement. Don’t be a fool and get your ad disabled, please be sure to follow all of Google’s rules and regulations on there editorial guidelines page.

Many computer owners are just learning how to purchase using the miracle of the internet and even more people do not understand that when they click on those Google ad’s they are spending someone’s money just by clicking on it. They also don’t understand that most of the pages that they are going to be clicking on are product pages trying to sell them something. Many aren’t even interested in spending any money no matter how convincing your sales pitch can be. Though, this depends on what they are searching for. To avoid this simply yet destructive problem merely put the price of your product directly into your ad.

2. Brainstorm

This is where my downfall began, I selected few keywords and in turn received little traffic, and the traffic I did receive was very expensive! To avoid this start off by taking the position of your possible customer. If you were searching for the product that you sell, what would you, as a customer search for? Do that now and make a list of as many search phrases and keywords you can think of. Don’t be afraid to use Google’s keyword tool, though I found that this isn’t too helpful.

After you squeezed out as many words you can, glance over them and determine what words and phrases can be combined to form a new one. Simply come up with as many words as possible, once you get started its easy and you should come out with around 250 keywords. Review this list and delete some of the keywords that are “out there” and wouldn’t produce targeted traffic.

3. Optimize

Never waste your money using Google’s suggested cost per click; it is 10 times higher than necessary. Many advertisers do not understand that there click through rate effects there position to the same degree with how much they pay per click. To make this easier to understand here is an example: if you pay 5 cents per click for the phrase “shopping cart” and your competition pays 10 cents and has a click through rate of .5%, to surpass this person in position you need to double your click through rate to anything above 1% yet you are still paying half of what he is! For keywords that are less targeted to your product or purpose yet still effective I suggest pricing them to nearly half that of highly targeted keywords for a rule of thumb.

Now that all your keywords and pricing is in place, set your daily budget lower than you plan on spending per day for now, this way incase it’s a failure you don’t lose that much. Let your campaign run for a few days, but before you do make sure you set up conversion tracking. Watch what keywords perform well and convert to conversions, and delete the ones that cost you nothing but money. If at first you don’t succeed try try again.

4. Experiment

As you watch the performance of your keywords and Ad groups you should continue to try new things. Change one word in your ad and compare the results to previous, trust me one word can and will make the difference; whether positive or negative that is for you to discover! If you are having trouble finding an ad that gets enough clicks to avoid being disabled brainstorm again and create as many ads as possible, even if they are terrible they will give you new ideas. Pick your favorite three and create a new ad group while comparing the results to your other ad groups.

If you do not find success after following all of these steps, what you’re doing isn’t wrong it’s what you’re trying to sell. To determine if your product is assured to fail ask your self this question: is this product helping someone or is it just another great idea? Chances are if it’s a great idea people aren’t searching for it, or in desperate need of it.

Continue to track and modify your keywords and Ad groups while watching your sales and popularity excel!

Strategy #1 – Identify a large number (preferably 300 above) of low-cost but highly targeted keywords/keyword phrases

It is important to understand that Google AdWords is a pay-per-click system and you only pay when a prospect clicks on your AdWords ad – regardless of the number of impressions.

And you can use this knowledge to your advantage by developing a huge keyword list for each campaign.

Here are some tools you can use to generate keywords and key phrases:

Google AdWords Keyword Suggestions tool:

Actually, Google AdWords does this for you automatically i.e. it displays the ad that receives a higher click-through more frequently.

Here’s a quick and dirty way to develop a killer ad headline and description – model other Google AdWords ads!

Notice I said ‘model’ and NOT ‘copy’.

All you need to do is type in relevant keywords in the Google search box and review the AdWords ads that show up.

Ask yourself which AdWords ad attracts your attention and note down how the headline and description are written.

Here’s a Copywriting 101 Tip – Your headline and description should mention the BIGGEST benefit of your product or service.

Strategy #3 – Use the ‘Keyword Matching’ option to better target your ads

Unlike conventional pay-per-click models, AdWords ads are ranked based the following formula:

Cost-Per-Click (CPC) X Click-Through Rate (CTR)

Keyword matching helps you achieve a higher Click-Through-Rate (CTR) for your ads and therefore, a higher ad ranking – without increasing the Cost-Per-Click (CPC) of your campaign.

For example, a phrase match keyword like “popup generator” will show up for the search query “best popup generator” but will not display for the search query “popup a generator” – so using the ‘Phrase Match’ option will minimize ‘untargeted’ impressions and result in Click-Through-Rate (CTR) improvements.

Strategy #4 – Limit the ad impressions to certain countries and/or regions once you’ve received customer data from the initial sales generated

For example, if most of your customers are from the USA, you may wish to focus your advertising revenue on the US market and target your ads to only US customers. This strategy will also help you to achieve a higher Click-Through-Rate (CTR) for your ads.

Strategy #5 – Add a subscriber sign-up box on ALL the websites you’re promoting.

This will allow you to build your subscriber list at the same time! Place your subscriber sign-up box at the top left or right side of your webpage to increase subscriber sign-up rate.

Strategy #6 – Add a DHTML (Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language) pop-up on your websites

Here’s a 5-STAR SECRET Google doesn’t want you to know: You CAN use pop-ups on your landing page (i.e. the page a prospect sees when he/she clicks on your AdWords ad) as long as the pop-up does not result in the OPENING OF A NEW WINDOW!

A DHTML pop-up is technically not a pop-up – it is really a ‘floating menu’, made to look and act like a pop-up!

You can find out more about ‘PopupMaster Pro’, a ‘new-generation’ pop-up software (that also beats pop-up blockers) here:

http://PopupMaster.net

Installing a DHTML pop-up on your websites WILL dramatically increase your sales and subscriber sign-ups!

Strategy #7 – Monitor and manage your campaigns

You’ll be able to access valuable information and find out which keywords have the highest impressions, which keywords generate the highest click-throughs etc. once your campaign is live.

And you should use this information to tweak your headline, description and cost-per-click accordingly – to maximize your campaign effectiveness.

Use the various strategies described above and monitor the effectiveness of each of them. It will help you maximize your Google AdWords campaigns and reduce your campaign costs.

It’s easy to overlook the basics of a strong AdWords campaign. Without them though, your AdWords campaign can be doomed from the very start. Follow these tips and you can be sure that your campaign will have a strong foundation for both short term and immediate success.

Use Proper Grammar and Spelling

It may sound basic, but ad text that uses slang, has misspelled words or doesn’t read clearly isn’t going to get clicked. If anything it makes your business seem unprofessional and could actually harm your business’ reputation.

Make sure that you spell and grammar check your ads. You might also have a friend, co-worker or employee read through the ad text to make sure that it reads smoothly and makes sense. Input from others is invaluable when creating AdWords ads.

Start Small With Geographical Targeting

If you’re just starting out, try limiting your ad’s distribution to one or two regions (e.g. for businesses based in North America, limit your initial distribution to the U.S.A and Canada). By starting with a smaller distribution area, you will be able to keep your costs lower and “fine tune” your ads and keywords before you start to expand.

When you feel comfortable that your AdWords ads are profitable, start to expand several countries or regions at a time.

Scout the Competition

Chances are, no matter what kind of product you are selling, you will have a competitor who is already selling something similar and advertising it on AdWords. Search for the terms you wish to use on Google to see what kinds of ads your competitors are writing.

You might even try a tool like GoogSpy to see exactly what terms your competitors are buying.

Pay close attention to the terms they use, the deals or incentives they offer and the titles they use. You can learn a lot from your competitors. You don’t want your ads to be exactly like theirs, but you can use elements from each competitor to make your ads perform even better.

Ready for more tips on how to make your AdWords campaign work more effectively for your business?

Start with a Modest Budget

Just as you should start with a smaller geographical region, start with a modest campaign budget. Spend a few days or a few weeks fine tuning your ads before you really decide to pump up the budget. The more “finished” and tuned your ads are before you start spending serious amounts of money on advertising, the better.

Patience in building a strong ad group before you expand will benefit you and your bottom line.

Remember Your Audience

Write ad text that will appeal to your audience and bring in the traffic you want. If your products appeal to hobbiests, use terms that hobbiests would understand. If your products are directed mainly at younger customers, use youthful verbage and terms that will draw their attention.

You only have your ad text to convince the “right” customers to visit your website. Make those words count by making sure that you target the message toward them.

Attract the “Right” Customer

There is a fine line between writing ads that appeal to customers enough to get a high click-through rate and writing ads that merely draw anyone. You want to have a high click through rate on your ads, since it will get you higher placement and save you money. You don’t want to attract customers who won’t ever becom customers though.

Use strong action words in your ads. Include powerful selling points and benefits. Try to stay away from phrases that will draw everyone though such as “free” and “bargain.” Write an ad that will bring you viewers who have a good chance of becoming customers too.

Did you know that Forbes magazine has reported that pay per click ad sales are expected to increase to at least an astounding $8 billion by the year 2008? Pay per click though still unfamiliar to many, will be around for a very long time. One of the search engine giants to capture a lion’s share of this market is Google through its Google Adwords service. A few ebooks like Google Cash and The Definitive Guide To Google AdWords provide basic and advance knowledge on releasing the incredible power of pay per click campaigns especially as this applies to businesses and affiliates around the world. Big businesses are still the largest group to benefit from incorporating pay per click in their advertising budgets but, home-based businesses and affiliate program promoters can benefit too if they understand how to use this tool.

Pay per click search engines provide a way for you to basically buy your way to the top of search results for any keyword you wish. Pay per click advertising works thru a bidding process, and your ads appear in the results pages of search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves. With Google Adwords you bid on the keywords you want to focus your ad on. For example if someone were searching on “gourmet coffee”, if you’re the highest bidder for “gourmet coffee” you receive top placement for that phrase and depending on the search engine, the top 3-5 bidders for that phrase also receive placement on the first page of unpaid search results.

With Google Adwords the “ad campaign” is everything. When you sign up with Google Adwords you have unlimited campaigns at your disposal. I enjoy promoting affiliate programs and in the past I spent a lot of time deciding which keywords I would bid on to attract buyers to my affiliate programs. The only tool I use right now is Ad Word Analyzer which saves tremendously on time and gives me an overview of my keyword and/or keyword phrase as it was searched on the top two pay per click search engines Google and Overture ( now called Yahoo Search Marketing ).

Now that you’ve done your research and you’ve collected your keywords and/or keyword phrases, you’ll need to open an Adwords account.

1. To do this go to https://adwords.google.com/. There is a one time sign up fee of $5 and your username and password are emailed to you.

2. Now you can log into the system and select “create a new campaign”. Give your campaign a name that will also allow you to create multiple campaigns.

3. Before creating your first ad, I recommend that you print out Google’s set of guidelines, ebooks such as Google Cash cover this area as well. Since most of you are probably promoting affiliate programs, it’s important that you notify Google of this by simply adding “aff” at the end of your ad text.

A few tips to keep in mind:

a. To keep your ad targeted, make sure your keyword or keyword phrase is in the headline.

b. Put your keyword or keyword phrase in the text of your ad.

c. In promoting your affiliate program, make sure you’re linked directly to the owner’s website thru your affiliate link so that you’ll get the credit and the cash!

Now you can submit your ad and start tracking your campaign over the next few days. If you’re not happy with your ad’s performance you can make changes such as targeting other keywords or increasing your bid a little at a time. Adwords is flexible in allowing you to make changes within Google guidelines of course, to make your ad campaigns successful.

Pay per click is here to stay and it offers a high level of assurance that your ad is reaching your targeted audience. With the proper management and a clear vision, pay per click specifically Google Adwords, can provide you with well targeted and economical advertising on the internet.

As mentioned earlier pay per click ad sales are expected to increase to at least $8 billion by 2008, with Google Adwords, the right resources and a little effort on your part, you can also benefit from this increase and find yourself with a significant supplemental income each month or a fulltime “leave my 9-5 job” income. The sky is truly the limit with pay per click.
